GUILTY PLEASURES

I would like to report that the Dada Drummer has no guilty pleasures, really I would. Unfotunately, I already outed myself a couple of weeks ago with the posting about that post-Dancing With The Stars conversation with Special K. Sigh.

So there is nothing keeping me now from confessing that I keep one or two guilty pleasure names in my back pocket. These are names that I would never saddle a kid with but nevertheless secretly love.

I will confess a couple of my GP names in the comments section to this post. In return for my candor, I expect you to admit yours as well. I highly recommend that you post anonymously!

Let's keep the mocking down to a minimum people.

Good list. Wow. I just realized how much fun its going to be trying to guess the owner of each of these sets! :)

Gray

My wife hates it. But I think it sounds British and cool. Gray Buck sounds like a stealthy woodland stag or a womanizing super spy.

We have a number of names that would be nice with our last name (and by nice I mean funny and horribly cruel) - specifically...

Hockey
Bucky
Anita

PS - apparently someone has a hold of your password or while you weren't looing they added these engimatic words to a Dada Drummer post: "Let's keep the mocking down to a minimum people."

It DID happen while I was looing! I got up to go pee and my pugnacious roommate Penny got on the computer to soften my stance on all things stupid.

This calls for a house meeting.

St. John ("sin jin")
Seamus
Balthazar
Piers
Niall
Guy
Laird

Esmerelda
Bathsheba
Glynnis
Bronwen
Phillipa
Saiorse ("seer-sha")
Phoebe
Lulu
Poppy

Anyone watch "Keeping Up Appearances" with the sisters Rose, Daisy, Hyacinth, and Violet? Poppy would have fit right in.

This sounds totally dorky, but I really like the names in Harry Potter. Narcissa, Draco, Remus, Godric, Severus, Minerva, Sirius, Rubeus, etc.

Oooooo! Peyton! The names Archie, Duncan, and Audrey are perfect names. I'm talking PLEASURE hold the GUILTY!!!

If I had three tiny new Drummers, these names would be on the short list!

I won't lie. Lennon. I've always wanted to name my son Lennon. This is, however, problematic for several reasons: first of all, the confusion of Lennon with Lenin, which in turn gets my kid beat-up at recess for being associated with incendiary Bolshevik politics. Also, Lennon Wheeler doesn't roll very nicely off the tongue. It sounds like a law firm. Oh, and another problem: no sane woman would ever agree to that name. Not even with an epidural working in my favor.

Also, the name Joplin appeals to me for no reason in particular.

For a girl: Edwin, or possibly DeAnna. Both definite guilty pleasures.

I would never inflict these on my child, but I do have a closeted affection for:

Hester
Aoife
Arabella

And I hate to say it, but the name Shiloh actually sounds good to me. And not just for puppies.

Coco said...

Coco (duh!)
Bear
Bunny

Pretty obvious theme there, but I can't kick my fondness for fierce-sounding animal names (okay, Bear and Bunny only...other animals aren't as cool) and well, duh, my name.

I rule.

How is it that Horatio can seem like a cool name on David Caruso (CSI:Miami) but sounds so strange on a normal person?

Hillary Diane. Diane would then be replaced with the maiden name.
